First Cut..

  • We have just given our teachers the first cut of our trailer and gained some feedback. Our first cut was very rough; it showed our basic ideas for the trailer and how we wanted the slower storylike first half and the quicker more random shots from the film in the second half.
  • We started to play around with sound - when we first starting editing we did not like how our footage fitted together and realised it was lack of sound, so looked at a few horror trailers on YouTube and found they used a basic synth just as some eery background noise, so tried this and were surprised at how much difference it made.
  • We then chose short clips and experimented with fitting these together in a random order, using black screens to break them up. Our teachers said we need to work on making these even quicker to create more pace and tension, and we are working on this now.
  • They also suggested that we make the beginning more scary, but also shorter as to get more action in the trailer quicker, so we have explored adding some of the blood writing shots right at the beginning as to confuse the viewer and bring the 'writing on the wall' in immediately.
  • We are also perfecting our sound on the fast shots as this will be a major factor in making the trailer scary. Our soundtrack is the old man playing the piano, with added effect such as a ticking clock, static electricity etc.
