From early on in our research we viewed a large number of trailers that included voice overs. We realised this really helped the audience to understand the story and connected the characters with the audience. Our original voice over idea was to have the character of the 'old man' telling one of the male characters the story of him and his late wife, but we then changed this idea to using wedding vows, the old man and his wife saying these to suggest the importance of their relationship within the story. This wouldn't be giving the story away but would hint to the audience a hidden story line that would intrigue them to want to watch the film.
"Groom: I,____, take thee,_____, to be my lawful wedded Wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's holy ordinance; and thereto I plight thee my troth."
"Bride: I,_____, take thee,_____, to be my lawful wedded Husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love, cherish, and to obey, till death us do part, according to God's holy ordinance; and thereto I give thee my troth."
