We googled 'top ten horror movies' and looked at and analysed how they advertised their film in a trailer. Here are some examples of ones we were inspired by, and some conventions they use...
'The Woman in Black'
- The creepy, quiet music
- The use of a voiceover
- Fades to black in between short clips
- Not giving away the story - shots of the setting and a few characters
- Builds up - music gets faster/louder and the clips get shorter/faster
- Slows right down at the end
- Blood writing on the wall
- This teaser trailer shows a different approach at using the horror genre
- calm yet eerie poem sung in a nursery rhyme style
- exaggerated sounds effects such as the wind blowing
- eerie and on edge
- mysterious- only showing a creepy aspects of the film, leaving a lot unknown
'The Human Centipede'
- The car driving in the rain
- The creepy man living alone
- Text in between clips explaining story
'The Ward'
- Silences in between clips
- Clips flashing very quickly
- Builds up to extreme moments by using faster clips
- Extra clip at the end after film title/release date etc
