Our ideal setting for our storyline would feature a motel a bit like this...

But this is obviously, and unfortunately, unrealistic, so the house we are going to use for our haunted hotel is this...

We are going to try and film the house so it appears isolated, ie not getting any of the other houses around it in shot. We are going to film in the evening so it is dark, and use the light from the headlights of the car and street lamps as sources. Most of our filming is going to be done inside, so we won't have a problem with lighting. To make the house more scary and old though, we are going to use mainly candles and fires inside and make it appear that this is the only light source and the house still appears like the 'olden times'
The house we are using also has a narrow country lane near, perfect for our car breakdown scene. We think a lane like this gives off a scary, isolated feel so the viewers get the impression they are in the middle of nowhere; the motel is the only place they can stay.
