FURTHER WORK INTO OUR STORYBOARD
We have decided to use two storyboards for our trailer. After researching greatly, we came to a decision that this is how trailers work best and we would like to use this basic structure:
- First half of the trailer -
- Approxiamately 8 shots lasting a total of approximately 30 seconds explaining how the group end up at the motel. These will flow in chronological order like a proper story, not giving away much but introducing the viewer to the characters and setting etc.
See characters in car -> car breakdown -> find motel -> enter motel -> meet scary male owner -> cannot sleep in their room -> see writing on the wall
- Second half of the trailer -
- These shots will also last approximately 30 seconds but will be more jumbled up clips. We want random clips of interesting parts of the film such as injured characters to include blood etc, the characters panicking and running, more writing messages in blood and so on. This gives the viewer a taste of what is in the film, but still not giving it away.
VOICEOVER IDEA
We have an idea of using a voiceover (as well as music) as these appear frequently in trailers and are very effective. Our voiceover would be the scary male owner of the motel telling a character the story of how his wife died, and that her ghost haunts the motel. We would start the voiceover while the audience see the group approaching the motel, and correspond the dialogue with the actions such as 'The old motel has stood here for hundred's of years, I've owned it as long as I can remember...' (in a creepy voice)and then cut randomly to shots of the man telling this story to one of the teens who have come to the motel.
